3/5 because of the artwork. Not a fan of the story or the transitioning from chapter to chapter.

I feel like two to three stars sounds about right to me. I liked it but....also I didn't.
I totally get the hype especially in the 90s. It's just not the same for me. But, I'm still glad I read it.

I cracked up so many times throughout the book. It's so true. A must-read.

i really liked this one. i found myself comparing it to "shortcomings" which was the last graphic novel i read... this one was much more enjoyable, not totally depressing, and the drawings added a certain poignancy to the story that i felt was missing from tomine's. this one is a VERY quick read, and i enjoyed it thoroughly.

I hated how vulgar it was, maybe there is a reason for it but the main characters were awful.

Weird that you can find warmth amongst these two ranters. Like any good story it comes over you while you're unaware. 4.5 stars, but no half stars on Goodreads.

I finally picked this up and read it while it was slow at work. Not sure why it took me so long, because I was obsessed with the movie in high school. But I honestly associate it with a pretty dark and confusing time in my life, bringing back weird memories, and for that I haven't seen it in a while.

But that's quite fitting, because this book / movie is dark and confusing.

Enid and Becky have just graduated from high school, and they don't know what to do next and are pretty apathetic about it, anyway. They spend their time going to diners (familiar) to make fun of people. They're super judgmental of everyone, and everyone sucks. But it becomes clear that Enid and Becky kind of hate themselves the most. Literally me in my manipulated brainwashed phase. The FEELING of this book hits close to home for the person I was senior year of high school and freshman year of college. It hurts. But it also captures SOMEthing, idk exactly what, so perfectly. So I'm happy that I finally read this.

Oh there's some pretty brutal slut-shaming and general meanness that sucks, but honestly, it's true to the characters. They're not the best people.
