I finally picked this up and read it while it was slow at work. Not sure why it took me so long, because I was obsessed with the movie in high school. But I honestly associate it with a pretty dark and confusing time in my life, bringing back weird memories, and for that I haven't seen it in a while.

But that's quite fitting, because this book / movie is dark and confusing.

Enid and Becky have just graduated from high school, and they don't know what to do next and are pretty apathetic about it, anyway. They spend their time going to diners (familiar) to make fun of people. They're super judgmental of everyone, and everyone sucks. But it becomes clear that Enid and Becky kind of hate themselves the most. Literally me in my manipulated brainwashed phase. The FEELING of this book hits close to home for the person I was senior year of high school and freshman year of college. It hurts. But it also captures SOMEthing, idk exactly what, so perfectly. So I'm happy that I finally read this.

Oh there's some pretty brutal slut-shaming and general meanness that sucks, but honestly, it's true to the characters. They're not the best people.
