Very adorable read. And oh man, I really needed an Eloisa James palette cleanser. A quick read, and a quick pick me. Nothing super complicated, and very fun.

If you haven't read anything by Eloisa James yet, and are thinking about it, this novella is a great way to give it a try. It has everything that I love about her writing, and is a wonderful story. The characters are great, and there are many amazing moments in this story. Some are funny and some are sad, and that is part of what makes it so great. I love that Lizzie is feisty and strong, and how Oliver has changed since he was young, and how he feels about the boy he was. The ending was one of my favorite parts, and while I have not read the Essex Sisters books yet, I had no trouble following along. In fact, I can't wait to dive into that series.

Absolutely fantastic! Wish it was longer! Nonetheless satisfyingly full of the best things in life- acceptance, honesty, love, healing and laughter!

I didn't enjoy this novella as much as some of the others by Eloisa James but it was still a sweet and enjoyable story. Oliver and Lizzie were a good match but there was just something about their characters which never pulled me in. This short story is distantly connected to the Essex Sisters series but I don't think it is imperative to have read that series in order to enjoy this book. However, I will say that I've enjoyed the novellas based off the Essex Sisters series since they feature Josie and I felt she never got as much attention in the series as the other sisters.

A silly little historical romp about love at first sight & the passionate consummation of that love.

If you prefer a quick read with little substance then this novella & others like it are your cup of tea. Otherwise, don't waste your time.

A witty and sparkling Regency romance novella by Eloisa James, author of My American Duchess, linked to the bestselling Essex Sisters series

Eighteen months ago, Lizzie Troutt's husband died in his mistress's bed, leaving her determined to never marry again . . . and unfortunately virginal.

Eighteen years ago (give or take a few) the Honorable Oliver Berwick blackened his own soul, leaving him hardened and resolutely single.

When the chance for redemption in the form of a country house party invitation comes his way, Oliver is determined to prove himself a gentleman.

Until he breaks all the codes of gentlemanly behaviour . . . once again.

Praise for Eloisa James:

'Eloisa James is extraordinary.' - Lisa Kleypas

'Nothing gets me to a bookstore faster than Eloisa James' Julia Quinn

History has never been this much fun' Australian Women's Weekly

Oliver is one of the gentlemen who helped coin and spread the name of the Scottish Sausage.
Lizzie is a virgin widow, having been informed after being dropped off in her new home that her husband would be living with his mistress and died in her bed instead of home with his wife.
This is a nice little bit of insta-lust/love fun.
