The eldest daughter of an immigrant parent household syndrome is so real in this book, so I definitely felt that. I think I got some major second hand embarrassment from Yami throughout but tbh I was the same way in my teen years so I’d say the way her pov is written is pretty accurate for a sixteen(?) year old. Pretty great listen overall tbh

Took me a second to really get into it but I LOVE this book and I cannot wait to read the sequel. Themes of identity, revenge, fate, and what it means to be "great" are all so covered so thoroughly by Zhu and later Ouyang.

The way Joe is somehow much worse in the book than season 1 of the show is WILD. There’s definitely stuff in the book that I would’ve liked in the show but also stuff in the show that I think was a nice addition. But narration overall is so so good
