I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I liked the comic more than the show. The comic doesn’t soften anything. If you think it’s horrible and upsetting that’s because it is supposed to be. The show softens trauma too much, while the book is begging the question of “What if things don’t get better?”, and shows what that reality looks like. It shows what generational trauma, poverty, and adolescence looks like and more importantly when you put the book down you know what each of them feel like.
