In a world full of ice and winter a young woman is forced to become cold herself in order to pull her family out of poverty. She is a debt collector and constantly has to collect to rule. However, she has a talent for spinning silver coins into gold that attracts a fae king. This is one of the most satisfying books I have ever read. It reads like a fairy tale with the weight of a Tolkien novel. If you like snarky, but beautifully human characters and fun magical political battles then I definitely recommend this. Also if this doesn’t sound like the book for you check out the rest of Namoi Novack’s work! She has yet to write anything bad and has something for every fantasy fan.

This book is like eating a delicious dessert at the end of a big meal. It’s sweet, filling, and will leave you feeling satisfied. I always thought I was not a romance fan but the more I read of this series, I’m realizing that I might be a big romance fan! But for all those feeling less certain about it, this book also has great representation of all of its characters through race, class, sexuality, and disability. You inevitably find a character that you can relate to. But a word of warning: these books are for ADULTS only! It gets quite spicy in several sections, but personally I think that's a part of the fun. I would recommend this book to anyone apprehensive about romance books, interested in diversifying their shelves, or just looking for a good time.

Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel

Trying to understand a parent after they have passed is painful. You learn way too much about them, way too quickly, and they aren't there to answer any of your questions. Family is complicated and this book shows all of the frustrations, love, and hardships that they bring. Cartoonist Alison Bechdel, shows her relationship with her Dad in a wonderfully realistic light after his suicide. As a child who has lost a parent this book holds such an important place in my heart, as it goes about meticulously explaining the struggles of having a very flawed parent.
