Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot by Mikki Kendall

This is an incredibly informative book. I think this is a critical text for White women who consider themselves feminists and, as Linda Tirado states in her blurb, they should read this ,”before they can talk about feminism.” Kendall highlights where today’s feminist movement is currently failing and offers solutions but most importantly ways that today’s feminist should question their thinking.  My own copy is full of annotations and notes, however, because this is a Black feminist text, and I am a Black feminist, most of the points Kendall discusses I either already knew or agreed with.  At times, I also found her wording repetitive, which makes me think that this is a book more geared toward White women looking to shift from just being allies to what Kendall calls “accomplice feminists”.  I did find this book valuable but I don’t think it was meant for me.  I will definitely recommend this book to my White woman friends!!
