Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

This is a really difficult one. I’ve seen so many people rave about this book and give it 5 star reviews that I went into this book with high expectations and finished it a little disappointed.
Don’t get me wrong, it is a beautiful story and I was desperate to deep dive into how Elliot and Macy’s adorable friendship/young love turned into heartbreak, because they were so freaking adorable! They were so precious! I was devastated at the final twist at the end and my heart was aching.
However, I was just expecting abit more from the book (don’t ask me what cos I don’t know lol). I think the time jump of 10 years is abit unrealistic, like how are you still holding onto this stuff after 10 years, it felt abit dramatic given what happened. I think a time jump of maybe 4-5 years would have been more realistic/understandable.
I really enjoyed the dual POVs of then and now and how those parts of the story kind of connected. It made it a really enjoyable read and kept me engaged.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but it wasn’t my favourite especially as I went in with such high expectations. But 100% worth the read.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. I found the writing very simplistic and boring, and I’ve discovered I’m not a fan of third person narration. I did enjoy the multiple POVs and the fact that the chapters were short. I found the first 60% of the book boring and a huge drag, I had to motivate myself to pick up the book and nearly DNF’d it all together.
I loved Henrietta and Annie’s friendship, I thought it was so sweet! I think some of the other characters were not really needed as they they weren’t really given much personality or backstory. The twists toward the end I had kind of predicted so I wasn’t surprised. I was just so sad for Annie!
Overall, the book was okay, it’s an easy-ish read if you have the motivation.

I AM IN SO MUCH PAIN! TJR HAS DONE IT AGAIN! I read this book in 24 hours because I couldn’t stop thinking about it! This book made me cry and emotionally wrecked me! It’s such a devastating and powerful book about grief, learning to love again and finding yourself. One of the quotes I loved was “People aren't stagnant. We evolve in reaction to our pleasures and our pains” because it is so true, we are constantly changing and sometimes that means that people don’t always have one soulmate.
I thought the characters were all amazing! Wasn’t a huge fan of Marie at the start but towards the end I quite liked her. I felt so torn for Emma trying to decide whether to go with the love of her old life or the love of her new life. I would like to add that I was 100% #TeamSam all the way!
Overall, amazing book! I would highly recommend reading, just make sure you have some tissues! So heart-wrenching and beautiful!

This book was giving me serious Gossip Girl/Pretty little liars vibes, I did enjoy reading this however there were just a few elements I thought let the book down.
I really enjoyed the writing, and the multiple POVs and timelines really gave you a deeper understanding of the plot and I felt that they were written well. I did find the chapters to be abit lengthily and I found the first half of the book dragged but it did pick up and become more interesting in the 2nd half. I also think the whole book could have been maybe 100/150 pages less. This is the longest book I’ve read so far (504 pages) which kinda put me in a slump!
The only characters I really liked were Drew and Leo. Charlie’s character was interesting but I agree with her guidance counsellor about being narcissistic so I didn’t like her all that much!
I wasn’t a fan of the exclusive club the “A’s”.. I found the entire concept and the things they did incredibly childish and petty which kinda let the book down. I think they could have removed this concept entirely. I was disappointed with the ending because I wanted more closure and details about what happened to Charlie’s friends after the revelations, however this was just skipped over.
Overall, it’s an easy read and has some good mystery elements, I found it to be more YA focused which isn’t really my cup of tea.

WOW this was a wild ride. If you look up gaslighting in the dictionary you would see this book! This book drove me abit insane! I got whiplash from the twists.. Joanne was not the only one going crazy! The last 20% of the book threw me completely.. I didn’t know who to believe, and just when I thought I knew who to believe.. BANG another twist..
This book was really well written, and the short chapters made it a fast paced and gripping read. The characters were also well written, I wanted to strangle Chloe so much, she infuriated me so much! Richard is just an ass and a gaslighter (like father like daughter), and Joanne has no backbone whatsoever.. wake up woman!!
Overall this was an entertaining read that had me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a psychological thriller! Definitely won’t be my last Nicola Sanders book!

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

This book was so painfully boring, hard to read and is massively overhyped. Firstly, there were way too many characters to try remember.. what book needs 30 characters in it! I couldn’t keep track of who everyone was and what role they played. I lost track of what was actually going on for the majority of the book because the twists just confused the hell out of me. The constant switching back and forth between the hosts only confused me further. This book did not need to be 507 pages long, a lot of the unnecessary gibberish could have been cut out.
Another issue for me was that the book to be quite fatphobic, there were constant negative references to Mr Ravencourt being overweight.. which as a larger girl really wound me up.
I don’t have much else to say about the book because I don’t want to waste anymore energy on it and I want to forget it ever existed

Well I can definitely see why this book is so popular and I really enjoyed reading this!.. However I wouldn’t say it was one of my favourites because I think it lacked a little bit in the thrill department. I found this to be such an easy and intriguing read, and I didn’t want to put the book down, because I was desperate to find out why Alicia was silent for so long.
The story is told from the POV of Theo, and also had several diary entries from Alicia, which I really enjoyed as you got to understand Alicia’s mindset leading up to the murder. The more I read the book the more I realised that Theo was unhinged so it was interesting to see that develop. The other secondary characters weren’t that interesting, I think they could have done with abit more development or personality but it didn’t massively impact the story.
The twist.. I wasn’t expecting the twist and it went in a completely different direction to what I thought it would so I was definitely intrigued.. but did I love the twist… no. It didn’t give much drama or add to the thrill element as much as I wanted it too. However it made a lot of sense by the end of the book.
Overall, I would recommend this book, I would lower your expectations if you are expecting a drama filled thriller, as I would say it’s more of a standard fiction. It’s well-written, gripping and an easy read, I’ll definitely be checking out his other books!

We Had to Remove This Post by Hanna Bervoets

This book was absolutely terrible in every way. The description / blurb was more interesting than the entire book. The premise of the novella was intriguing and had so much potential, but ended up being a massive heap of disappointment. There was so much fascist, antisemitism and unnecessary racial slurs throughout the 150ish pages of the book it was unbearable. I lost interest in the story and the characters within the first 20-30 pages so I’m glad this wasn’t any longer. And the author didn’t even finish the book.. it just came to an abrupt and confusing end.. maybe she was just as bored writing it as I was reading it.
I don’t have much else to say about the book other than don’t read it

If you love Bridget Jones you’ll love this book! I honestly loved it from the start. It’s pretty relatable to me even as a 30 year old, there are a lot of things in life I thought I would have done by now, but this book emphasises that not everyone’s lives are the same and to stop comparing. This was a witty, funny, heart-warming and cheesy at parts but is such an easy read. The chapters vary between slightly longer ones to short snappy ones, and I loved the list of things to be grateful for at the end of each one! Definitely made me want to start doing that more often!
All the characters were incredibly well written, they all had great back stories, personalities and their own quirks. Nell is witty and fiesty, and incredibly funny! I loved her friendship with Cricket, I thought it was so sweet and I definitely need a Cricket in my life! The friendship triangle between Nell, Fiona and Anabel definitely reminded me of the film ‘Bridesmaids’ with Annie, Lilian and Helen! I spent most of the book calling Anabel a b!tch..
