The Institution by Helen Sarah Fields

This was a fantastic, dark and intense thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat!! This was my first Helen Fields book and certainly won’t be my last, her style of writing is incredibly compelling and had me hooked from the start, she also did a fantastic job setting the atmosphere and the scene of the Institution.

Although the chapters were slightly longer than I like it didn’t put me off because it was so fast paced and everything flowed so well. The characters were brilliantly written and developed, I loved getting to read about each of the murderers their backstories, I thought it tied in really well with the story. I found myself trying to profile Nurse Cameron’s killer along with Dr Connie. The tension and suspense built and built the whole way through this book and I did not expect any of the twists!

Overall, I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a book that will take you on a dark and crazy roller coaster!

Damn I’m not having much luck with my thrillers at the moment! I didn’t enjoy the writing, and I wasn’t impressed by the plot or the structure. I really struggled to read this as there were too many stories and sub-plots throughout the book which made it confusing to keep up with.

I personally don’t think this had any thrill or mystery to it, I guessed the ending within the first few chapters and the final twist wasn’t that surprising. I found it really difficult to connect with any of the characters (maybe except Irene).

Overall, I didn’t enjoy this book and think it will be awhile before I read another Paula Hawkins book.

Oh goodness.. this book was a mess! I went into this book with high expectations because of booktok and bookstagram; and I’m honestly kind of disappointed. It wasn’t my favourite read but it wasn’t awful, it was a fast paced read and had good character development which helped to drive the plot.

The characters were all truly unlikeable and I pretty much despised them. Alison… what an absolute mess, I had no sympathy for her at all and it’s so glaringly obvious that she’s an alcoholic in denial. There were some times I felt a little sympathetic to her cos she was really trying to be a better mum. Carl… honestly husband from hell, constantly picking holes and being vile to Alison.. no wonder she had an affair. Patrick.. disgustingly awful and misogynistic.

The author did a good job of making me feel incredibly uncomfortable and frustrated throughout the book.. I really did not enjoy the ending of the book, it felt abit rushed and I was actually pretty confused for a abit. Overall, it was an okay read, not my favourite.

My first A.R Torre book and certainly will not be my last! Wow, this was a hot mess in the best way, I loved the bitchiness and the drama, I was on the edge of my seat most of the time wondering what crazy shit could happen next. The book was told in two different POVs, Cat and Neena who were both unreliable narrators and terrible people.. however I did find myself rooting for Cat throughout the whole book.

The book was so well written, I think A.R Torre has done brilliantly with writing such developed and well rounded characters. I just loved to hate Cat, Neena and William (Matt was the only good person in the book). The plot was fast paced and had me gripped from the start with the twists and turns.

Overall, this was a fascinating and entertaining thriller and I would recommend everyone give it a read! Definitely need to read more of Alessandra’s books!

This book certainly did not disappoint and had me hooked from the very start. There were so many twists and turns I was not expecting. From the start it’s packed with suspense and drama, I suspected every character at one point in time. There were a couple of moments where I gasped because I didn’t expect the twist.

The book is told from two alternating POVs one from Mollie and the other from her daughter Nic. My heart broke for Molly it was so sad to see her still struggling from the grief and then the guilt and grief that Nic went through aswell. I wasn’t a fan of final twist, I didn’t think it was needed but it didn’t change how I felt about the book.. it was still the thrilling suspense I needed.

Overall, I highly recommend this book and I’ll be looking into Wendy Walkers other novels

Not a great start to 2024. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this book and to be honest don’t know where to start. I nearly DNF’d this book 4-5 times but as it was my first book of 2024 I forced myself to finish it and overall I found the book pretty bland.

Personally, I don’t think it was very well written. I found it really messy and hard to read, I felt like some chapters were just full of irrelevant waffle. I thought that some of lot of the story and the portrayal of the final girls massacres was just recycled from slasher films with a couple of changes here and there and I really didn’t care for it. I didn’t care for any of the characters and I don’t think there was much character development at all.

Overall, this was pretty disappointing and underwhelming for me and I found myself skimming quite a lot throughout the book because I was so ready to be finished with it.

Was disappointed with the last few chapters and the ending, personally it felt quite rushed especially with the time jumps. Ended up feeling frustrated and annoyed once I had finished it

Loved this book! Was completely different to what I thought the story would be like. I laughed and I cried! Once I had finished the book I felt sad because I wish I could reread it for the first time all over again!

I struggled to finish this book. The first half of the boom was difficult to read.. I didn’t find it enjoyable to read.. especially trying to remember all the characters. The 2nd half was better and then there was the completely unexpected twist.. so glad I read it but wouldn’t read again

Was an okay read. There was a lot of irrelevant characters that didn’t need to be mentioned which sometimes confused me. Also didn’t really provoke any emotions for me
