The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
5.0
17/09/2023 reread
"if you have to go, you know I will go with you."
I read this book for the first time a couple of years back. This year, I finally picked it up as an anticipated reread, one that I hadn't forgotten about. The story of Patroclus and Achilles is the one that I would keep on recommending. Whether it is this tale (in which they are actually described as lovers) or the one that goes way back.
Madeline Miller writes in a way that keeps me captivated. While a big part of the book described the year of war in Troy, the author made sure that it was still worth reading, The small conversations and the trips down memory lane made sure that I would make it through the book.
No, it is not the easiest book to read, I must admit that. But I felt like I understood the book better reading it the second time. I made sure that I took my time to capture the love between Achilles and Patroclus. But also the characters that were there to witness their love.
