Kate DiCamillo can do no wrong, and this was such a fun read after reading Matrix by Lauren Groff. More medieval stories, plz!

I liked it just fine, and it's super soothing, but can we please have a book about mushrooms that is not about psilocybin and psychedelic mushrooms?

I don't know, maybe Asian-centric sci-fi/fantasy isn't for me? (grimace emoji) It was so drawn out. I couldn't.

Thank you to Penguin Random House for my free copy!

The Year of Essays continues with this strong collection. I didn't like it QUITE as much as They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us, but it's VERY good, and you should read it. Just do it.

This is a great middle grade book about education in another country and how it might look. There's a lot to talk about here between kids and their adults, like class, "good trouble," and art.

I'm an Emily St. John Mandel completist, so I would have read this anyway, but I think this one came too soon after the publication and smash success of Station Eleven. I felt like it was clear that she was working stuff out in terms of that being her most popular/well-known book when she has so many others in the backlist. I was unprepared for it to have crossover characters with The Glass Hotel, so when it did, I was jarred out of the story.

Really good! Especially for this word nerd who is mildly intrigued by cults but doesn't need every detail of every cult out there. I thought the analysis of organizations like churches, Soulcycle, and MLMs was really on point.
