This was my first of Peter S. Beagle's work and the title/cover totally drew me in. Overall, it was an enjoyable story and I liked the portrayal of dragons in this medieval setting. Unfortunately, it was kind of just okay. I never found myself hooked into the story or really loving the characters. I am interested in trying more of Peter S. Beagle's work to see if this was a one-off where I wasn't pulled in to the story or if his work just isn't for me.

When I heard that there was a cozy fantasy book coming out that was set in a zoo, I knew I had to have it! But, this truly exceeded any expectations I had for it and was the perfect cozy fantasy to close out summer with. I loved the characters so much in this and really appreciated the portrayal of anxiety the author gave through Aila. It was the perfect balance of cozy, action, and romance for me wrapped up in a very fun fantasy environment. The fact that this is a debut book has me so excited to see what else S.A. MacLean will come up with!
