i wish i'd read emily henry's ya novels before i got into her romance novels... and i wish this had been a little shorter or fast-paced in the first half. and i wish i hadn't read the audiobook (pls do yourself a favor and read the physical book). regardless, it was a unique story and i enjoyed it.

josh malerman is so skilled at creating unease and tension. readers looking for straight-up horror should not expect that from this novella. it's essentially a metaphor for young/first love and i thought it was beautifully (and creepily) executed.
