I enjoyed this one more than the first. It had some funny moments and I enjoyed the reluctance “friendship” between Murderbot and ART. It was nice to see a bit of character development for Murderbot as well. The conclusion to this story was really quick and it felt a bit anti-climactic. Again, I didn’t really care for the side characters at all.

This was disappointing. I went into this with high expectations and while I didn’t hate it, I was expecting a lot more. I liked Murderbot as a character but I didn’t really connect with it. I did not care for any of the side characters and felt like they were incredibly flat. Which is why it made no sense to me when Murderbot starts to care about them. This story lacks a lot of emotional depth. Perhaps it comes down to the quick pace and short book. The writing itself was a little hard to follow.

I hope later installments are better because this series gets a lot of praise.

This has definitely got me interested in Murderbot.

So much goes on in this book and I listened to it over a long time that it’s hard to keep track of everything that happens. However, what I do remember was enjoyable. The way that Rowe writes inner voice I won’t ever be a massive fan of. Too many questions.

After discovering that Freddy Carter voiced part of this audiobook I immediately ditched my physical copy to listen to the audio. 1 star for him alone.

I enjoyed the banter between the main characters and felt the enemies to lovers plot was done well. I liked Ransom as a character. Sera was also good but felt a little flat for most of the book.

My biggest gripe with this book is the plot twist. It just came out of nowhere and made no sense to me. I can’t remember the book ever hinting at it before it was revealed. Luckily it worked out in the end. It just felt wedged in there when it was revealed.

This book balanced fantasy and romance well and I look forward to a sequel.
