I really enjoyed the layered portrayal of the main events and the character building in the first 2/3 of the book. I was a bit lost in the final parts of the book.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 28%.
I read this for awhile, then put it down. I can live with the idea of never finishing it.

I learned a lot about Koreans in Japan from the book and also the interview with the author at the end of the book. I found Sunja's and her children's story very interesting and well developed. However, the stories of the next generations were somewhat rushed and didn't add much.

I read the first section and a half (70% of the book) waiting for something of note to happen or be done and when that didn't materialize I skimmed the rest.
