This was fine, but the MMC was a little too much of a cinnamon roll for me. I didn't have any interest in continuing the series but the last 15% or so teased some world building that might intrigue me enough to get me to try book 2, we'll see...

(Unrelated to my rating, but this was an impulsive library check-out that my foster pup attempted to eat, so I guess I now own this book, minus the dust jacket and one corner of the cover. 😑)
First off, bi representation!! TWO bi main characters!! Hot damn.
This book was enjoyable enough, but ultimately pretty underwhelming due to two main issues:
* The pacing was glacial in the beginning and then even when it picked up toward the middle it still felt very slow, despite the book being average length.
* I picked up this book feeling very intrigued by the setting; I wanted to be IN 90s Mexico City, but unfortunately there was very little about the writing to set that scene for me. Other than references here and there to classic Mexican cinema and telenovelas, this could have been a story set anywhere. This is my first book by this author, so maybe it's just that she is more inclined toward character work (which I did enjoy!), but I was definitely disappointed by the lack of flavor and detail in the setting. 😔
