Linking pandemic failures, internet personas, conspiracy theories, climate crisis, wellness influencers, and far right podcasts, Klein demonstrates how capitalist colonial white supremacist patriarchal structures work to pit certain members of society against each other while allying others; and most crucially, how the left is complicit through our desire to distance ourselves from the right.
The section on Palestine and Israel falters a bit, and because it’s at the end it loses some momentum, but over all a compelling and thoughtful book that puts into words many of the unsettling feelings I had during the early days of the pandemic.
