Rebel of Riddle and Woe by Levi Jacobs
4.0
I enjoyed Rebel of Riddle and Woe by Levi Jacobs a bit more than the previous book again.
There's still not that much progress on the "main quest" but the (side) characters felt deeper and more developed, which just hooked me more to the story
I especially liked a non straight female main character, which I really enjoyed to see! I'm not sure yet if she is bi, or pan sexual, but I don't think she even ever wonders about things like that herself. She just likes who she likes, and I found this a refreshing "non dramatic" way of including LGBT in fantasy!
Overall this is still a fast paced coming if age fantasy, which I devoured quickly!

You'd Be Home Now by Kathleen Glasgow
5.0
You'd Be Home Now by Kathleen Glasgow is a fantastic story about drug addiction, and how it affects everyone around the addicted person as well.
I loved how this was told from the sisters POV, which still lets the reader see the struggles and problems, but it also gives a new way of thinking about this topic, a bit differently to what I read in other books before.
Glasgow, who it says in the epilogue is a recovered addict herself, clearly knows what she is writing about, so the book felt neither too hard and depressing, but neither did it play down the serious impact addiction has not only on the person themselves, but on their friends, family, classmates and so on. However, this is not teh only thing going on obviously, as they also have their own problems and struggles as well, which might be connected to the addiction, or be normal problems for that age group.
It also managed to really hit the tone and voice of actual teens very well, when a lot of books hit the mark, and feel like an adult who tried to sound like a teen.
A wonderful read I will happily recommend!

Lords and Ladies by Terry Pratchett
4.0
Lords and Ladies by Pratchett features a favourite theme of mine - older female characters!
I was so happy to spend time with the witches, simply enjoying their way of doing whatever the hell they want to do.
The dialogue and characters were as always just spot on, and I was very well entertained all the way through. Not just by Esme, but also by the very unusual king and his betrothed.
I really liked the idea of the stone circles and elves, which were similar enough to what I'm used to from the Fae to not feel too weird, but yet different enough to feel unique to Pratchett.
The one star missing is purely for the plot, which was interesting enough, it just didn't hold up to some of my favourite Discworld books, so it didn't feel right to give it 5 stars as well.

A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers
5.0
A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers is just as comforting and soothing as book one.
I really love the relationship between Mosscap and Brex, and how they are growing together.
The LGBTQIA+ inclusivity is also always nice to read, when it just doesn't matter who loves whom, or how many, as long as everyone is happy with it. It's simply not a topic at all, which I adore.
This story is quiet and slow, and yet speaks right to the heart.
There are so many gorgeous little quotes and moments, and I am so here for it! I definitely need more of this.

Vanity and Vampyres by Tilly Wallace
4.5
Vanity and Vampyres by Tilly Wallace is yet another cute and fun entry in the series.
I really enjoy the strong friendships, family bonds and relationships in here so much! It might have brain eating zombies, other monsters and murder, it's still a cosy and comfy read.
If you like Gail Carriger, I highly recommend trying this as well! I like it even better as the romance is even more glacial and more a side aspect of the characters than a main plot point.

Apple Boy by Isobel Starling
3.75
3,5* rounded up
Apple Boy by Isobel Starling had a tone I enjoyed, despite the main character being quite a bit in love with himself. I liked him, despite him mentioning how good his own bum looks and just being very cocksure about everything.
While I personally always like less romance, the (m/m) one in here was not bad, which is quite a compliment coming from me, though quite graphic in bits.
The story itself just felt a bit too light, and I would definitely have preferred a bit more fleshing out, and more of an actual plot than mostly drifting along.
The magic was intriguing, but again, I would definitely have preferred some more depth,. especially because I found it interesting enough to want to know more! It feels more painted on than a world I could fully stride in and get lost.
I still enjoyed the book overall, and quickly breezed through it.

Jackdaw by KJ Charles
4.0
Jackdaw by K.J. Charles is another spin off novella in the world of Magpies.
It is a self contained story and theoretically can be read as a stand alone, but I'd not recommend that. It would doing spoil quite some big moments in Flight of Magpies, and I think it's also more enjoyable if you read the series first.
The author did a wonderful job of turning the tables, and putting is on the shoes of the villain. So now you both root for the cast if the main series, while also rooting for Jonah, who you definitely didn't like after what he did.
That she manages to make him so human and relatable, you end up falling for his charm right along with Ben is proof of how amazing her character development is.
Once again a rather graphic and steamy m/m romance. I personally could do with a lot less graphic detail, but they are at least well written, and the story, characters and world just hooked me again right from the start.
