One Percent of You by Michelle Gross

Is Michelle Gross a Republican? Cause it sure does seem like it. A lot of this book especially in the beginning rubbed me the wrong way. The mmc talked about how everyone is abusing government assistance and how his WHITE single mom was the only saint actually not abusing the system and “waisting tax payer money”. I’m surprised he didn’t talk about how more of that money should go to war. The author also thought it was important for the FMC to have an encounter with a homeless man that she gave money to but ofc he wasn’t actually homeless he was also just cheating the system. The MMC has a discussion with his coworker where he is talking about the FMC and his coworker goes on to say she is probably a lazy single stay at home mom who is just living off child support payments. I honestly did not entirely hate this book however as a young black women myself who was raised by a single working mom who occasionally had food stamps and who receives child support. I can not in good concessions and with my beliefs support this book. Also the 🌶️ scenes were weird cause what do you mean he drank ur breast milk that’s for ur newborn son from ur boob at that (it wasn’t even a taste test homie was going to town)
In the end the only reason mmc befriends the fmc and her child is because he feels bad for fighting with a literal child over a bag of chips (and it’s not even cute like y’all made it seem) with a single working mom (because for some reason he hates stay at home moms and u have to work because according to him raising a child isn’t work enough(seriously I hate this dude)) who doesn’t use government assistance (because those who do are horrible?)(like y’all there’s an actual scene where he’s waiting for her to take out her ebt card and she gains some of his respect for paying with her debit card even though his own f*ing mom used food stamps. )
Long story short don’t read this book the good parts are few and far b/w in the end it’s just not worth it.
Now I’m going to do research on this author cause theres no way she’s not a Republican. I’ll update.

I loved this book. The only bad thing, is present in all the books in this series, is that once the couple reaches a point it’s almost an instant switch from dislike to being obsession.

For majority of this book I was loving it and it was amazing. However towards the end it was completely rushed. I feel like the conflicts were to easily resolved for how big they were. A lot of the issues both Atlas and Lily faced for majority of the book were each fixed in one chapter for each problem without the reader knowing they had even had a plan or thought to a solution. The last chapters were just big cringey time jumps that really took away from the actual telling of their story. I was going to give it 4 stars but several points were taken off for that horrible scene where Lily’s mom was telling her about when she first met Atlas. I loved Josh and Theo. Specifically loved the line “ it is my wish for you to be my fish “.
