Dissent (The Heretics Saga #2) by C.A. Campbell
This book....
This series...
I don't even know where to start. Typically I read a book & instantly move on to another. There's so many out there that even if I loved the book, I don't get impatient waiting for a sequel. I don't go crazy hyping a book. I just move on.
This one tho.
Lord help me.
I already need the next one!!!
I hype the first one CONSTANTLY!! My bookstagram probably has 20 Heresy themed posts & now this one is out. Dude, pub day is today & already I've read this book twice.
A sequel is oftentimes a reheated generic leftover version of the original. With Dissent, that's a BIG FAT NOPE. This book is 100% a 5 star read & in no way soggy leftovers!!! 🤪
The world building is so well done that I feel myself living it. The characters - new & old - are diverse, complex & so real. I can't stand some of them. Some I wanna shake some sense in to. Some I wanna snuggle up with. Some I wanna burn the world down for.
The relationships, prejudices, personalities & story line in Dissent are top notch. New characters feel familiar. Strong personalities get even stronger. Losses get more painful. Heartbreak bleeds off the page into me. Parts made me cry so hard I could barely see yet I could NOT stop reading.
Highly recommend this series for anyone that loves indie authors, f'd up dystopian stories with a strong found family storyline, LGBTQ rep & characters you'd unalive people for. If you love an underdog story & BADA$$ rebels fighting for acceptance, equality & most of all LOVE, you might be a Heretic and this series is definitely for you.
I adore Hunger Games...dude, I could talk about it all day. Books, movies characters...I could go on and on about it and never get bored.
This series tho??

So much fun! I got real anxiety during the action scenes in this book: a dystopian tale where big business meets Stephen King's Maximum Override. I loved this! Four instead of 5 only cuz it was a little bit of a slow start for me and some of the technical stuff confused my brain. 😛 Platt & Truant: there's a reason why they're some of my go-to authors. ⭐

Well written short story about a drug dealer & an amnesiac I'm pretty sure escaped a cult. Too short. Severe cliffhanger.

This is sick a fantastic series. Love the diverse characters and crazy ice planet monsters. A few continuity errors and typos but overall, excellent.

I kept waiting for it to get better. Kept waiting for emotional charge or drama. Sadly, I wasted my time.

Such a sweet opposites-attract romance. One the seggsy bits hit, it only got better.
Triggers: sexual assault, violence against women, kidnapping, cancer, reproductive health.
Well written with only a couple small continuity errors. Will definitely read more by this author.

DNF: this is the most jumbled mess I've read in a while. I tried 50% of the audiobook and I just can't. 19 year old but asked to see a an artery blockage on her own mother's body cuz she's in medical school? Uh huh. And medical examiner is fae and she can't stand him and then suddenly they're kissing for no reason whatsoever. I could go on and on but I'm irritated as hell and can't continue. I wanted to like it. Ugh.
