Crazy to Leave You - Marilyn Simon Rothstein

"Getting married ensured nothing. Eric might have left the day after he said "I do." There was no way to control another person. All I had for sure was me."

Not my typical genre, but I needed a break from the constant suspense πŸ˜… this was perfect for a quick, light read. I agree with other reviews that it was more contemporary than romcom, but I didn't mind it. I did this one fully audiobook and found the narrator's voice enjoyable.

Loved the concept of the jilted bride. I felt the main character, Lauren, was a little shallow at first but there was much more to her & she had plenty of character growth for me. I loved her two sisters as well. Triggers for ED.

The Couple in the Cabin - Daniel Hurst

"If there can be sentences given out for murder or armed robbery, then there should be a term of punishment assigned to relationship betrayals because those can be just as devastating as any act of physical violence that results in bloodshed."

I found this one randomly on KU. It turned out to be so good. Plot twists galore and a super interesting antagonist. I kept thinking that had to be it but the twists just kept coming. Very fast paced, and easy to read.

This was my first but will NOT be my last Daniel Hurst read. This book takes revenge to a whole new level. So messy and so much drama with a little bit of creepy suspense. Definitely deserves all 5 stars from me πŸ–€πŸ‘

The Beach Party - Amy Sheppard

"An interest in murder is our way of connecting with the horror in the world. It makes us feel alive.

Two podcasters investigate a cold case in a small town that one of them is somewhat connected to. There was a bit of romance in this one and some definite triggers. Nothing too explicit but heavy topics! It kept me guessing & was not very long.

The beginning dragged on a bit. A ton of mystery, not as much thriller. That being said, I really liked it & did not see the plot twist coming. I thought I had it figured out but I was not even close πŸ˜… I'm excited to read more from Sheppard.

Run on Red - Noelle West Ihli

"I’d always thought of myself as a true-crime junkie. But it turned out, that was only when it happened to other people."

This one was suggested to me in a Facebook group. I took a break from my other reads because this one was insanely fast paced as well as being pretty short. This book was pretty much non stop thriller action πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

It did get a little predictable in the end but I think it was a really interesting story with characters I could root for. I was pretty much hooked at the reference to the X-Files on the very first page. πŸ€£πŸ–€ I will more than likely read the other book in the series about Ava.

As the Wicked Watch - Tamron Hall

"Every child's life matters. But as someone working in law enforcement for over twenty-five years, I've continually witnessed the unchecked victimization of Black women & girls, and society's failure to protect them"

I was super excited to read this one because I've been watching Tamron Hall on TV ever since I can remember. I genuinely cared about the characters, they felt real.

It did read more like a 'Dateline' special than a thriller novel. But I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing considering the subject matter Tamron is tackling. I'm going to be thinking about this one for a while. πŸ–€πŸ“š

Overall, I liked it but it read a little slow.

The Housemaid's Secret - Freida McFadden

"It all started with a simple cleaning job. And now it might end with my 🩸 being mopped off the cabin floor"

Overall, I loved it and it was totally worth the wait after reading The Housemaid. Not nearly as surprising as the first one but I think that's to be expected. I'm super glad we got more of Millie's story. I can't say too much more without spoilers but if you read the Housemaid, this one is WELL worth the read πŸ‘€πŸ–€

Do Not Disturb - Frieda McFadden

"You don’t even realize you have everything until your whole life falls apart"

This book is described in the title as an 'addictive thriller', I have to agree. I really thought I knew what was going on the entire time and I did NOT. I read this one over the weekend, on Kindle it's about 250 pages so it wasn't too hard for a girl with no life. πŸ˜… I was rooting for Quinn so hard that I knew I had to finish this one fast. Every character intrigued me and had me wondering.

This is my second book from Frieda & she is really becoming one of my favorite authors. Her writing is so easy to uderstand & yet she will completely take you for a Rollercoaster ride. The Housemaid was amazing. Triggers for DV at a minimum, triggers can be found on one of my favorite apps, StoryGraph.

I only give perfect 5's for the ones that keep me thinking afterwards, and this is absolutely one of them.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six - Lisa Unger

"We give because we love, not because we fear."

I was super excited to read this one based on the title alone. It was a page turner for me and I read it in about 3 long sessions. Bonus points for a character named 'Hannah' πŸ€— it definitely had the eery factor I was looking for and I would recommend this one. If you are a person who looks up trigger warnings before reading, i would! Nothing is SUPER graphic but there are some crazy things that go down that could be bothersome.

I can't give it a perfect five because at a certain point I kind of had it figured out. There was still plenty of reason to get to the end. The end was a little frustrating to me but I won't say why because I don't wanna spoil anything. I'm super open to discuss with those who have read it or are curious though. ☺️

Crying in H-Mart - Michelle Zauner

"Save your tears for when your mother dies."

One of my very good friends, Zoe Snow, recommended this one to me and i knew it would be a good one. It wasn't just good though, it was devastatingly sad. I shed countless tears reading this, but it got some good laughs out of me as well.

I have to give this 5 stars because of how raw and honest Michelle, the author, was. I also felt like a learned more about Korean culture and was thankful to have done this one digitally to have the 'look up' function on hand. It wasn't difficult to read at all. She used very plain but emotional language which fit the tone so well.

Although this was a shorter read, im glad i split it up over a couple weeks because of how emotional it got. Triggers for Cancer & loss of a parent.

The Guest List - Lucy Foley

"And I'm not worried about it being haunted. I have my own ghosts. I carry them with me wherever I go."

This was a super quick, interesting read! I was pretty hooked the entire time. I've been on a little reading hiatus and I was able to read the last 80% of this one in one go.

I have to say, I enjoyed The Hunting Party much more just based on predictability, but I liked this one far more than The Paris Apartment. Bonus that one of the characters was named Hannah. 😊 possible triggers warnings, but the content is not super explicit.
