I was worried every possession novel would feel like a knock-off of the Exorcist, but this one was something completely different!

At first I thought it was disappointing that so many political topics were brought up, but then there were never really any conclusive thoughts or opinions. But after I finished this book, I realised that the book was more about the fact that two wildly different people were still able to form a connection, despite their opposing opinions and without having to change them either. It felt very hopeful. And the writing was beautiful!

I hoped this would be a quick and refreshing read, given its short length. I thought I’d finish well before it could start dragging. Well … I was wrong. 😐

The writing was as beautiful and unique as I already felt about “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.” But unlike that book, this one lost my interest very quickly.

Straub’s writing felt really chaotic. I don’t think I would’ve minded too much had it not taken ages for anything to happen. When I eventually decided to DNF this book, I read the summary and don’t regret it. 😄

It’s not exactly the branch of linguistics I’m most interested in (as I already realised when reading Guy Deutscher’s Through the Language Glass). 🤷🏼♂️

I’m unsure about the ending, but I loved how disturbed the book makes you feel throughout the whole read.

I can't even force myself to stay interested. So that's it – for now at least. 🤷🏼♂️
