thoughts while reading

p55: oh my goodness, i see what people meant when they said the book was darker
p147: it’s writing like this that makes you wonder whether suzanne collins secretly planned The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes all along. she strikes me as the type of writer that already has several stories lined up, but i simply waiting for exactly the right moment to release each one
p157: the deleted film scene 🙀

A pang of jealousy hits me. Not for either Finnick or Annie but for their certainty. No one seeing them could doubt their love.
i know how that feels

p237: gale is an all-in kinda guy, he doesn’t do anything by halfs. this is how love dies, slowly, then all at once
p365: 💔💔💔💔💔
p402: gale is
telling you to shoot him
, even i know that and i’m not his best friend. you’re just subconsciously ignoring him
p406: i would love to know what political reason suzanne collins has for
killing off prim

He just asks if I feel like talking, and when I don't answer, he falls asleep in his chair. In fact, I think his visits are largely motivated by his need for a nap. The arrangement works for both of us.

p454: imagine having to deal with your kid knowing such a traumatic part of your past

drake is just not that into you
p138: oh flora. oh sweet naive flora
p225: i knew it.
p235: oh gosh this is even worse!
flora must have made the whole thing up! possibly not the kiss but everything else

9%: i find it ironic that guy fawkes is a keeper rather than an igniter, when his entire thing was literally 🧨💥! but i suppose keeper and igniter are meant to represent protestants and catholics
10%: paedyn gray would do it 💰
11%: oop 👀
15%: i think it’s black that’s calling out to him, not white. surely white doesn’t sound sinister
23%: oh please don’t ask for reward money 🤦🏼‍♀️
25%: ooooft, emma’s a fiery one 😶
39%: i really thought
norwood
would be part of the plot
52%: emma having
dark skin
was not something i expected
53%: ah, the women-are-my-possession phase, my favourite
55%: thomas has a lot of thinking to do
69%: whaaat 😨
75%: well now white sounds like God
77%: it is 100%
thomas
who ruins the plot
78%: oh i think this is different
81%: …..swallowing paste isn’t gonna make it seep into your lungs bro
82%: wow i was not expecting
white
to intervene like that
94%: oh thomas i wish you didn’t have to see that

  •  juniper torres, class act underwater acrobat
  • ruby valentine, drama queen disappearing act
  • parker addison, golden boy human torch
  • brett carmichael, meat head iron stomach
  • gavin moon, lone wolf invisible man

i don’t know how to feel about this book, or it’s conclusion. recommend if you’re looking for dark and twisty escapism

thoughts while reading

p52: nuh uh, gavin smelled something off
p97: this is getting serious now
p101: wow, the desperation is practically seeping out of parker’s pores
p108: whatever they did, sounds like pure evil
p116: if i was ruby i’d never go near parker again, let alone get in a car with him
p132: i can’t believe they were cheated out of being endgame
p159: seriously parker could you be any more selfish
p203: OH
p260: i might be wrong but sounds to me like
brianna made a deal with ruby too

p278: wow

ah this was a clever plot. so many twists and turns. I loved the MCs growing relationships with each other

thoughts while rereading

p76: this poem is a stark difference from janae’s song in the show 😂
p195: i love the not-murder pact
p205: ughhh just move on from that psycho
p308: i can’t practically hear bronwyn’s panicking heartbeat
p311: i can see the chemistry forming
p312: eli 🤣

Happiness starts bubbling through me, making it hard to keep a straight face. I manage, though, because I'm not going to make things that easy on him. Nate can sit through the entire series before we leave the friend zone.

i’m annoyed that this story added nothing to the overall Noughts + Crosses plot, and had an unsatisfying conclusion. what did eva choose??

The Rise…
p44: the fact that tobey and callie still aren’t an item is a crime really
p88: one guess as to which race maxine is 🙄
p90: oh i hope not. if that dude is still alive after all this 😤
p93: everywhere. everywhere is the harm

The Fall…
p177: tobias durbridge. if you dare…
p181: if you’re that bloody scared of McAuley then you shouldn’t have ratted tobey out to him
p189: God, he’s gonna make tobey shoot dan
p191: don’t do it man, turn round and shoot the bosses (obv that’s actually a crap plan cause the rest of the mob will come after him, but i’m out of suggestions)
p220: that is a strange night, but i suspected she would do that
p239: that’s exactly what we thought, but how will they get him back? alive or in pieces?
p248: oh lordy, what if rebecca is dating the head of the L.M.? i’m pretty sure jude is dead, cause i rechecked Checkmate, but that thing is like a cockroach…
p264: sadly that’s the smartest plan actually, he’ll find out way more info from
rebecca than working at TFTM

p346: oh damn rebecca means serious business
p365: oh finally callie’s pov is back!
p373: thank god
p384: no tobey, please walk becks back to her car
p399:
byron
is the guy McAuley killed before the the prologue

i kid you not, this is one of the best books i’ve read this year! the soundtrack is to die for, and elevates the writing in the best way possible!

thoughts while reading

p32: i’m loving the musical accompaniment
p45: oh dear…
p75: it’s alana at last!
p78: as a theatre girlie, i approve of matt’s list
p199: i theorise that the way matt will find out the truth is by hearing meg and alana perform together
p213: OH. MY. GOSH.
p242: such a risky name choice, but a good one
p245: how is bro listening to this duet and not sussing her out immediately? ok actually to be fair they do sing together for most of the song, so i’ll catch him a break for not recognising meg’s voice
p254: oh yeah obviously. signing your life away? just sleep on it
p284: 😬 this is even worse than matt figuring out the truth
p304: wait…is tj black? how did i miss that/did the authors make that clear? oh my bad, i looked back to p83 where we first meet tj, and it does say he has dark skin
p363: i’m so proud of casper and meg, and how far they’ve come
