I haven’t felt seen in a very long time while reading a book until now. If this book doesn’t make you wanna smash the patriarchy, I don’t know what will.

I was intimidated at first with the construction of the novel and its references to and quotations from Shakespeare, but rest assured it does not detract from the story if you are not expertly familiar with Shakespeare's works.

The cast of classmates at a prestigious school for the arts is comprised of seven individuals who are forced to face their own demons and are constantly exposing and re-evaluating their flaws. Three quarters through the book, I had so many questions, but M. L. Rio managed to answer them all in the final act.

While this novel begins amidst Diwali celebrations and the wedding of her best friend, the focus is more on Niki's growth as a woman as she navigates a career change, lust, and love under the cultural and societal pressures of being the "good" Indian daughter. Lalli does a great job of addressing these themes in a relatable and, at times, comedic way.
