Doctor Moreau creates human/animal hybrids for a rich patron on a remote hacienda in Mexico. Told through his daughter's experience growing up with the hybrids while also being largely isolated from the world. She is smart and compassionate, but ultimately expected to get married off to some rich guy and be a pretty wife to show off at parties. What happens when this world is turned upside down?

Famous film actress invites friends and family to her private Greek island. Murdery hijinks ensue. Told from the perspective of her close friend who might have his own motives. Good and twisty. 

This book is what happens when a small town fights back against a book ban, kids get involved, books are switched, hijinks ensue, and everything is neatly resolved like in a Hallmark Christmas movie, but I mean that in a good way....

A small town in Georgia is shaken up when Lula Dean works to ban a bunch of books and then starts her own little free library...which doesn't go as she had imagined. In the process the town learns about history, race, gay people, mental health and more. It's all very tidy, but satisfying and sweet.

Misha is a gay horror writer who is told that he has to kill off his two female main characters or make them straight before their big on screen kiss. The studio has been bought by some big corporation which is evil and money driven, and they insist on following the algorithm over artistic integrity. Misha needs to decide what to do, while all of the monsters in his previous work come to life and threaten to kill him.

I highly recommend listening to this on audiobook. The narrator is fantastic and handles the code switching exceptionally well. I last read Huck Finn in high school, but some things jumped out as similar plot points from a different perspective, while others were obviously new to this version. I loved that Everett took liberties with the story but kept the feel right. This is great! 

What if you could endlessly trade out your husband? How long would you keep trying for someone better? This was fun and unexpected. 

A big news story leads to kids taking action...and we learn a backstory filled with big decisions, love, and ultimately family. 

Loved the premise, lost me a bit at some points, but worth a read.
