Glad to have had a reason to read this. Feel like it is a basic that I should have read a long time ago.

I loved this book. My son being a bee keeper didn't hurt my interest, but I also loved getting to know the characters in this story. Great insight into human nature. Peeling way the layers of life experience and why we are the way we are. We can idolize people who should not be idolized, believe people to be strong who are weak. Reinforced the universal truth that we don't know what we don't know. I love the Calendar Sisters. Especially August. I love Zach. "You gotta imagine what's never been."

I enjoyed the story. Given that Nell Gwynn was supposed to have been illiterate it is a bit ironic that most of the story was supposedly told through her diary.
