Not sure how to rate this. This was the first ‘classic’ I have read in years, and it wasn’t really like anything else I’ve read recently. I mostly base my rating of books on how thrilling they were, or how much I needed to keep going, or my attachment to the characters. However, this novel doesn’t fit into those boxes for me to rate. It will stick with me for a long time and I’ll desire to learn more on people’s takeaways from this, so i suppose it deserves a high rating. I think I related to Esther in many ways, and found her prose to be beautiful and symbolic. Her use of the fig tree and all it’s branches was something I have often felt about my own life, all the ways in which it could go, and how I feel I might never make that decision. Another quote from the book that stuck with me was “If only something were wrong with my body it would be fine, I would rather have anything wrong with my body than something wrong with my head, but the idea seemed so self involved and wearisome that I didn’t say a thing.” What a great way to capture the struggles of mental illness, how difficult it is and how impossible it is to rationalize to oneself that you’d rather this physical pain to take place.

Good book but some parts felt like they dragged quite a bit and didn’t add to the story line.

Everything was predictable, it was obvious to me who was the real bad guy and what the back story was. I loved the authors last book so this was kinda a bummer. Still exciting enough to read in one sitting though

A few plot holes, but overall an amazing and unique plot. I haven’t read anything quite like it before and the whole concept of a chain connection of actions was really interesting.

Loved this one. Kinda reminded me of Gone Girl. I like when I know who did it but need to know WHY they did it. The twists in this were mostly believable and I loved the growth between Lila and Ginny

Not surprisingly, I loved another book about crazy women and their feminine rage. Not many thrillers really make me think about real life problems. Wealth and class divide. But this was a fascinating story that spoke a beautiful message about the desire to climb the ladder, and how that can really be what knocks us in the end.

Good story but pretty predictable. The last twist was just too extreme for me to buy, I didn’t really like the lack of build up to that, but the majority of the book it was so obvious who was the bad one

Not what I expected from this book, way more poetic mystery. It was thrilling to explore the dynamics of the main relationship, and the inner mind of MC. I didn’t see that final twist coming
