Honestly, Miller is at her best when she doesn’t have time to meander. Her prose has gotten better since this, yes, but I prefer the tighter story.

Eh. It was short. It was fine but I hate that it had to be The Darkling? What did he do to deserve sympathy or protagonist treatment? I read the books. You cannot make me care about him—both because of him being originally meant to be irredeemable and because of him being fairly uncompelling—It was not going to be engaging when we made him the main character. Not like this.

Eh. Pretty writing.. brilliant ideas and aesthetic. But no follow through. It’s shallow and inconsistent. I want to love it. But it’s not good.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 12%.
I might pick it up again but I’m just too busy to suffer through like three hundred pages of exposition.

Good riddance. A Few funny lines, reflective moments, and good discussions were not worth the rest of the book being nonsensical, boring, and Ridiculously Racist.
