Lately I’ve been really diving into the plant/fungal/eco-horror subgenre and I love it here🥰 This was a really fun, weird, shiver-inducing read! There was a scene having to do with spores that made me not even want to breathe while reading. The imagery was haunting. The characters were… something. lol. They definitely get a lil side eye. I wish one character had gotten a little more development though. I was hoping there would be a little more explanation in the end, but I still found the ending to be very satisfying. I had a fun time with this one!
This is the perfect book for horror nerds everywhere!🥰 I loved this sooo much! Definitely one of my fave reads of the year! My horror-loving heart is so happy!🖤🫶🏽 This is horror-comedy done perfectly!
The characters were so amazing! I loved them so much. They all had such distinct personalities. The character development was great & organic. We got to know the characters naturally through their actions & dialogue rather than just being told who they’re supposed to be.
This is the funniest book I’ve read in a long time. I laughed out loud several times. But, the horror element was incredibly distinct as well. I even enjoyed the romantic subplot, which is rare for me because I usually prefer romance-free horror. But, every piece of the story had its place and there was a perfect balance of everything. It definitely felt like a fun, trope-y horror movie in the best way!
Even though the story follows the horror movie formula, the book wasn’t predictable in any way. This would make a great movie! It gave Scream vibes in several ways! (the original movie, not the awful sequels) I do feel like the explanation of everything at the end was slightly confusing, but not enough to dampen my enjoyment! I’m a poly-reader, I’m always reading multiple books at a time, but when I was reading this I didn’t pick up anything else! I was ADDICTED! Lemme hurry up and read Their Vicious Games by this author because after reading this, I want to read all her books!
Thank you Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers and NetGalley for this arc! All opinion are my own.
CW: gentrification, classicism, adult/minor interactions, micro-aggressions, drug use
I’m almost halfway into this book and barely anything has happened. There’s so much emphasis on character development to the point where the story isn’t moving forward. This should’ve been a novella.
Before I picked up this book, I was in a HUGE romance slump. I was DNF-ing romance after romance & I had only enjoyed one ALL YEAR. I had decided to take a break from the genre for a while, but I randomly picked this book up and I’m so glad I did. This book has renewed my love for romance🥰
This is the perfect romance read! It had everything I ever want in a love story. It had lovable main characters, so many adorable moments, lots of pining, and even drama👀
I loved the characters so much. Marcela and Theo were so great. They had such amazing chemistry. Their relationship had such depth. And the characters individually, had so much depth as well. ALL of the characters were so well developed to the point where I understood everyone, both the good and the bad parts. Theo has made his way into my book boyfriend hall of fame. From his grand romantic gestures to how attentive he was to her feelings. He was the perfect man.
Fake dating is my favorite trope and this was fake dating done well. The scenario which caused the fake dating felt so natural to the story. And this book had a third act breakup that made perfect sense. It wasn’t just some miscommunication where grown people don’t know how to explain their emotions. There were layers to it that they really had to sort through in order to come back together.
I feel like this review doesn’t even begin to convey how much I loved this book. This story had me cheesing and giggling at all the cute moments & beautiful confessions. It had me cussing people out. It had me tearing up. It just took me through so many emotions, in the best way. It was literal perfection from beginning to end. This book is for the real lovers! I can’t wait to read more from this author!

I was so excited to read this book that’s set during The Harlem Renaissance with Black, sapphic vampires! It really sounds like the perfect book for me. However I could not get into it. I have to DNF at 18%.
From the beginning I felt a disconnect from the book, I just couldn’t put my finger on why. But, my problem with this book is that there are so many long, superfluous scenes. Most of the scenes are too drawn out and don’t add anything to the story. After putting this book down, I started a new one, and I noticed that within two chapters of that book I know more about the story in that book than I’ve learned about the story of This Ravenous Fate in seven chapters (almost 100 pages). So, I won’t be continuing.
I’m very disappointed because I love the thought of this book and I’m so interested to know where the story will go, but it seems as if the story isn’t going anywhere.

I really loved the thought of this book! I always crave more Indigenous representation in fantasy novels and this novel is rich with Indigenous culture, which I loved. But, the story is way too slow moving for me. I read over 60 pages of the book and the central storyline hadn’t even started yet. I feel like the story got sidetracked by putting too much emphasis on subplots. So, I must DNF at 13% in. But, I still look forward to seeing what this author will write in the future!
Thank you Del Rey and NetGalley for this arc. All opinions are my own.
I read the first 21% of this book in 2022, and after putting it down to take a break, I still haven’t picked it back up. It’s 2024 now. So, I think I should finally let this go.
I LOVED the concept of the story, but the scenes were just way too long! The things that were happening were interesting, but it took so long for them to happen that it couldn’t keep my attention. Everything felt so drawn out. More should have happened in the story after reading almost 100 pages. Maybe one day I’ll try it again and see if I like it better!
Thank you Inkyard Press and NetGalley for this arc. All opinions are my own.
I cannot get into the writing style at all. It’s so long winded. There are so many anecdotes that add nothing to the story. Although it seems like we’re finally finna get some info on what’s going on in the story, I can’t read another chapter. I’ll just watch the movie when it comes out and hope it’s better.
