I really loved the first half of this one, but the second half has dragged on a bit too long.

I really enjoyed this one! Especially Persephone’s friendship with Eros. It was really sweet.

The class I student taught in is obsessed with the Dog Man books, so I wanted to give it a try! I can definitely see why the kids love it as there is this lifelike child narrative voice and style to it. From a teacher standpoint, I appreciate how it shows George’s spelling mistakes. It shows the word crossed out and rewritten. Modeling of mistakes and corrections is so beneficial for these kiddos. It’s a very simplistic story, great for those reluctant readers.

Holy s**t this book. This book. It needs to be gifted to everyone in the world. It should be required reading in schools.

This graphic memoir describes Darrin Bell’s experience growing up Black in America. He writes/illustrates his own personal encounters while also depicting current and national events. We get to witness Bell’s life from 6 years old to him growing up and having kids of his own, having to decide if he wants to have The Talk with them.

This was an incredibly powerful read and I highly recommend it.
