It's low-key a high fantasy legal drama? Like still with big magic fights and all that, but there's a lot of lawyering.

I'm lukewarm on this one. Act 1 was intriguing. Acts 2-4 were a giant slog, to the point where I did not look forward to my bedtime reading. The only thing that kept me going were a few plot points that were telegraphed early, and I kept waiting for those shoes to drop. And when they *did* drop - in Act 5 - the book suddenly became fabulous.

I've now read two books in this series, and I have no clue what the overall plot arc of the series is. Is the point to be "gay necromancers in space" slice of life stories? The world is great. I really like some of the characters. But slice of life is not my jam , and I don't know if I care about the characters enough to keep reading without some semblance of plot.
