Fat Girl Magic by Kat Savage

I loved these poems and I think that they are well done. They show the back and forth that comes along with learning to accept your body for how it is and to overcome fatphobia in yourself. They did a great job talking about insecurity and confidence and how it isn’t an easy journey to recovery from an eating disorder. I loved the poems dedicated to people throughout, it was a nice touch.

I loved this it was very compelling and after the “origin” story at the beginning the speed picks up and I got really invested in the plot really fast. I think all the characters are so unique and dynamic. I loved getting to know them. The reveal of murderer was well done also; the author did a great job at not making it too obvious who it was until the reveal. I loved the story.

All the Rage: Mothers, Fathers, and the Myth of Equal Partnership by Darcy Lockman

So basically I hate men and will never marry one. This book did a good job combining statistics and personal stories (both from the author and other people through surveys and interviews). It discussed many topics affecting home life between mothers and fathers very well. It also talked about the invisible work that needs to be done, such as making lists, reminding their partner to do things, etc. It was a great and educational read.

We Used To Be Friends by Amy Spalding

This was so good. It was really well written and shows the complexity of teenage friendship and also friendship in general. It shows that there are multiple sides and influences to each story and how it can be a struggle to communicate what you truly mean effectively, especially at a young age. Each character was so well written which made it clear that there was no “villain;” they were all just complex people who were going through difficult times and trying their best.

Everything I Need I Get from You: How Fangirls Created the Internet as We Know It by Kaitlyn Tiffany

This tells a good story of how influential fangirls are and it was very interesting to take a closer look into how it all operates and the impact of fandom. It was good read, my only real complaint would be that I wish there was less about One Direction. I know that is the author’s main fandom, so it makes sense that most of her personal stories are about them, but after the halfway point, it seemed like the book was only about One Direction and not fandom. I feel like there were major fandoms not discussed in detail enough for this book to be truly about how fangirls shaped the internet (Superwholock, Homestuck, Barbz, Swifties, Beyhive, etc.) Overall, a good read, but it definitely needed to be more diverse to live up to it’s title.

I love her writing style. It’s very funny and fast-paced which I enjoyed. I think overall, I liked the stories but I wasn’t really super interested in any of them. I definitely liked the writing style more than the actually writing.

This is so good. It shows how complex it is to navigate mental illness and chronic illness is on your own for so long and to finally have professional help and not know what to do with it. I think the author did an amazing job talking about the different challenges of mental illness and how they intertwine with attachment and relationships. It was well-written and heartbreaking and very moving.

So the thing is that I liked it an I am on board, I just fear it was way too long. like 250 pages too long. It was nearly 600 pages, and it really didn’t need to be. I was getting bored and tired ¾ of the way through because after the halfway point it was just repeating the same thing that happened about 100 pages ago. Overall, it was good though. I loved the characters, they were well-written and dynamic character. I think the author did a really good job setting up different relationship dynamics between the throuple as a whole and each individual couple within it. They all seem to genuinely love each other. I am, however, worried about Alex’s blood flow as it seemed like every other paragraph in his pov, his dick was getting hard.

Basically, I still hate men with a burning passion. The author did a good job talking about how once you are in a toxic environment, it is really hard to get out because of how isolated you are. I’m glad the author was able to get out of that environment and hopefully she is able to find happiness in a new healthy one.

I don’t really know how to express how I feel about this book. I loved and hated every character (besides Santiago, I just loved him). They all had their flaws and were growing and regressing at the same time. It was an unique read for sure. I’m not sure there is anything else like it.
