Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Teen for sending me an arc.
I don’t typically read or watch things about zombies because I get squeamish very easily and can’t handle the gore, but Hearts Still Beating might get me to start reading more zombie books.
If you're thinking that this book won't get brutal because it's YA, then think again. Because the author doesn't hold back on how violent and dark the apocalypse can get.
Also, this would be such a great movie and I hope it gets adapted because I can already imagine it happening.
Tamara Jeree puts so much care and warmth in her writing and it feels like a warm hug.
Reading about a black lesbian couple that cares about each other so much had me tearing up a little and I love Yasmin and Kalta and need more of them.
And I’m going to be honest guys, I ended up tearing up by the end of this novella. There’s just something about how it’s written that had me almost crying. I can’t wait ti dive into The Fall that Saved Us
I really liked Faebound, might have even loved it but there were some issues that stopped the book from being a 5-star read.
One of the reasons why it didn't get a higher rating is because the sapphic romance felt like a side plot. I also wished Furi had her own pov because without her own perspective, it feels like part of the story is missing.
Once we hit the 60% mark, the story went downhill a little for me. Yeeran and Furi's romance, while I loved them together, their love for each other a tad bit insta love, which could have been fixed with a longer book. A fantasy book less than 400 pages usually suffers in one area and this one was romance.
Lastly, Lettle was a little bit annoying, but I'm hoping in book 2 I'll warm up to her more.
