One for the angry girls - I really enjoyed the female friendship and the imperfect main character. I feel like the twist made sense but I didn't get the payoff I was looking for. Overall a solid YA mystery/thriller/light horror!

A beautiful haunted house story filled with equally haunted characters. Great pacing and amazing writing. I loved how atmospheric the writing was, and the dual POV really did it for me!

I love Sutherland's unique brand of feminist witchy tales so so much. This book absolutely complimented my read of The Invocations earlier this month. The power of sisterly love, and girls who are traditionally seen as weak using their power to thrive - similar themes are seen in both novels and I loved both iterations. Quickly becoming one of my favorite authors!

The Bachelor meets Black Mirror in this story about a Synth woman who is literally made for the man starring in a Bachelor-style reality tv show.

The story is told in 'then' and 'now' segments which I really enjoyed and felt that it allowed the story to play out in a suspenseful way. Honestly this was a great sci-fi twist on a domestic thriller! I loved the character of Julia and found her emotions really relatable, yet still believable as a synthetic woman.

Enjoyed this overall, but did feel like it dragged in too many places and could have been shorter. The romance plot was a bit repetitive and didn't give the tension I was hoping for.

Really enjoyed it, and moving on to book 2. I did find it hard at times to stay engaged though.
