A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston
3.0
It wasn't my favorite that Ashley Poston has written, and I usually love her books!
It gave very Seven Year Slip vibes, but like the bo-bo version. I think had I been given a better explanation- or an explanation at all for the magic I would have been much happier.
But that part was completely skipped over. There was zero information on how, or why, or when, or just for any of it.
I understood the lessons that were being learned and taught to the main character, and the unveiling of the mystery man at the end really did surprise me! I love a happy for now, this book was no exception. But I just needed more info!
it felt a tad like she wrote herself into a corner about it and so she just skipped past the reasoning and went straight to the end of the book.
I digress.
I did think it was fun how she explained a lot of literary terms that are typically a little obscure for the average reader. It was done in a very palatable way and I liked that a lot. I also liked the characters quite a bit!
Again, my biggest complaint was lack of explanation. The reader was very much just dropped into the plot of this book. Elsy's favorite novel became real life, and the reader was just supposed to KNOW what happened in the novel she loved so much. This entire book was based on a fictional book and the readers basically only knew as much information about the fictional book as the blurb on the back of a dust jacket would typically give.
It felt a little half crocked to be an Ashley Poston novel to me... here's hoping her next one is better
