I have come to the realization that I am simply not the target audience for this type of stories. But this was a gift for a friend and it was Valentine's Day, what better book would there be to spend the evening reading? I'll break my ratings down by story.

Bitten: 1.5/5. There was 0 personality and 0 chemistry. This felt so empty and lifeless to me. I guess that's fitting for a vampire romance? I wish the 10 page unnecessary and unsexy prologue had been scrapped and those words used for actual dialogue between the characters.

Heart of the Mummy: 2.5/5. This was so dramatic for no reason, but at least there was something between the characters! Interests and understanding and conversation go a long way. Unfortunately, I could tell the author really struggled with keeping the length down. It felt like there was a lot cut out and it made the reading experience pretty jarring.

The Yearning: 2/5. This had so much potential, if only there wasn't so much misogyny. The SA scene was entirely unnecessary and I did not like the strange focus on virginity towards the end. But I really did like their interactions and chemistry outside of that, and the author had a pretty good handle on writing for the length of story.

City of Demons: 3/5. The one with the least romance was my favorite. This had a neat premise and actual worldbuilding (whoa) and did a great job balancing story with the short length. Unfortunately, I really hated how it just became the main character testing her boyfriend? It felt like the concept was really fumbled by the end because of the romance. Also why were all the demon names so lame?
