In the latest instalment of the series, I found the character development to be quite disappointing. Superintendent Duncan Kincaid, who initially came across as a good cop and reliable figure, took a turn for the worse in this book. His interactions with female characters in the first book left me with a sense of unease, and in this edition of the series, his questionable decisions, especially when it came to crossing professional boundaries with a suspect and his junior colleague, Sergeant James, left me frustrated.

The plot itself was engaging, with some unexpected twists, but Kincaid's actions overshadowed the entire story for me. I had initially regarded him as a dependable male lead, but his actions in this book made it seem like he was thinking more with his ego (d*ick) than his judgment. I think this might be the end of the road for this series which is unfortunate because I thought I was going to enjoy them.
