Peter Pan has always been one of my favorite stories as a child and I watched the Disney movie almost religiously back then. So when I saw this at the bookstore I knew I just had to pick it up.
Diving back into the ever clear waters of Neverland was such nostalgia and it reminded me so much of the times when I was a little child. I loved the story back then and I still do now, although the book version is very different from the movie version I knew. I'm not complaining though.
This story as I already said was one of my favorites as a child but now that I'm older I started to really comprehend and understand it. It is far from perfect and there are clear signs of the time it was written by by who, a white European man in the early 20th century. I cannot lie and say that it is very problematic, because ig is. It propagates very racist stereotypes about the American native population and is very misogynistic upon really looking at its female figures. I think as a child I never really noticed this but as a grown-up person I do.
I still think that the story itself is very beautiful and unique and definitely worth a read.
