Silvia Moreno-Garcia has an amazing and distinct writing style which I really liked. However, this cinematic writing style let me to feel less connected to Casiopea and the other characters than I would have liked. Then again, during the book club discussion we talked about how Casiopea is just a speck of dust in the grant scheme of things, especially when compared to a god. So it could be that Moreno-Garcia wrote this way with a reason. (It made my rating go up from a 3 to a 3.5).
I loved that Mayan myths and culture as well as the 1920s setting in Mexico. I only really know the U.S. in the 1920s so it was really fun to gain this historical perspective.
Did anyone else have the Mario soundtrack when he is underground or in the dungeon in their head while reading about the race on the Black Road? No? Just me? Okay.
