National Dish: Around the World in Search of Food, History, and the Meaning of Home by Anya von Bremzen

For me, this ended stronger than it began! Chapters like Istanbul and the afterword that focuses on borsch were really great, but the opening chapter on France felt very antagonistic and made me question why she didn't just focus on a different country instead? Feels like a missed opportunity given the limited geographical scope of this.
Additionally, I feel like this is such a tricky topic because realistically you can't make such sweeping statements about national cuisine when you're basing your whole trip around one city!!
