What a ride! I can't believe that this is the first Lisa Jewell book I've read.

When Ellie Mack is 17, she goes missing. She has a wonderful family, lovely boyfriend and after seeing a tutor for maths she is set for great grades at GCSE.

Fast forward ten years later and there is an appeal for Ellie then subsequently her remains are found. One day whilst brunching in a cafĂ© Ellie's mother Laurel meets Floyd and begins a whirlwind romance.

Everything is going smoothly and Laurel eventually meets Floyd's nine year old daughter Poppy. But Poppy is the double of Ellie when she was that age. Laurel then discovers that Poppy's mother is Noelle Donnelly, Ellie's old maths tutor.

I love thrillers but I hate 1) when they aren't paced properly and 2) when the ending lets them down. None of these things happen in Then She Was Gone. The right amount of information was fed to us along the way and although I did guess a few things that happened, there were still twists to surprise me.

Jewell has kept suspense built throughout and makes us care about the characters too. Amazing!
