They Called Me a Lioness: A Palestinian Girl's Fight for Freedom by Dena Takruri, Ahed Tamimi

emotional informative inspiring medium-paced

5.0

An incredible story of a remarkable girl. I already knew of Ahed Tamimi’s story but to hear it in her own words is an experience everyone should have, especially now. It should be a required read for everyone, whether you read or listen to the audiobook.

The things that have happened to Ahed and her family are harrowing to say the least; so many killed and injured by the IOF. The way Ahed was treated in prison and in interrogations was horrendous, though I imagine it could still have been even worse knowing the atrocities the authorities commit.

The solidarity and camaraderie her and the other girls had was wonderful and I’m so pleased her and her mum were able to further their education even under the difficult circumstances.

She said at one point something along the lines of “resist without hatred, because hatred eats you up. Resist to live” and I think that was a beautiful sentiment.
