ohhhhh myyyyy gooooooood
I loved it
I haven’t read enough horse behavior stuff to know about band hierarchy and whether or not that’s a viable descriptor, I was just eyeing it because of my experience with dogs. With that caveat in mind, I loved it.
Here’s the thing: Most books involving evolution are either primers on how it works, or wrong. (Or both.) This is a book about horses that assumes some knowledge of evolution, although if you’ve got descent with modification you’re good, but uses it so effectively to talk about why horses are the way they are (not to mention what they are) and I just.
I love.
The book is divided in two halves: Horses before humans, and horse behavior with humans. It’s not so much a history as it is a biology and psychology–what are horses? What are they doing? Why are they doing it with us?
And written so well and I am absolutely without words, if you like horses please read this.
