I studied mathematics and as a consequence I have met a few people that the professor reminds me of. It’s an absolute privilege to meet someone who is so intelligent, yet doesn’t use that to belittle you. They just want to share the joy of mathematics and they make you feel capable of understanding. For me, this book captured that humble intelligence perfectly.
I loved reading about all the theorems (it was kind of nostalgic for me) and I loved watching the housekeeper discover her love for mathematics.
No one in this book gets a name really, which is interesting, I don’t know what it means but it was interesting.
The relationships in this book are so tender and warm. I found this book so moving. It’s sad in places, which you know from the premise it will be. But overall it’s just a lovely read.
