On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
5.0
Type of read: Commuter Read.
What made me pick it up: I think the title is what grabbed me.
Overall rating: This book ruined me. While I will typically listen to audiobooks while I work (in place of music), I refused to do that with 'On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous.' Not only because from the very beginning this book made me emotional (don't need to be a blubbery mess in my office and then explain to everyone that I'm being emotionally devastated by an audiobook) but also because I wanted to be present and 100% invested in the beautiful, gut-wrenching words Vuong was sharing. If you are ready to be absolutely gutted; to feel love and anger and frustration and defeat and genuinely question the ridiculousness of our world; to try and find yourself in the words of a complete stranger willing to share their heartache and hurt, then you absolutely need to read 'On Earth...' I wholeheartedly recommend this book; however, I wouldn't recommend it to all simply due to the emotion and content within.
Reader's Note: 'On Earth...' includes graphic depictions of M/M sexual activity, physical abuse, drug use, and war.
