If it's possible to rate higher than 5 stars, I would've given it that. Perseus was a better book than Theseus. It felt more like a full fledged novel than a storybook for kids somehow. It was poetic, it had a great pacing that felt like a journey from start to finish. No loose ends, no cravings left.
Perseus was a better main character to read about and at some points, he tugged at my heartstrings a little. Although Theseus had more achievements and skills, Perseus felt more mortal even though he was a literal demigod. I wish for more tales of his to read from.
There was that familiar humour again in this book, and that was lovely to read. But what I find more interesting are the birth of things according to Greek mythology in this story. It told of how snakes, wine, and corals came to be. I loved reading about them.
Once again, I am really impressed with McCaughrean and how she simplified these stories into such memorable, easily digestible books. More people should read her works!
