I just finished The Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule, the first book in the Star Wars High Republic series. I listened to it on Libby and if you like Star Wars AT ALL I highly recommend the audiobooks!! They're a full production with music, voices, and sound effects. The story follows a disaster that happens in space: a cargo ship crashes into something in hyperspace--a feat that should be impossible. The debris from the crash is essentially world-destroyers: chunks of metal traveling near them speed of light. The book follows the moment the disaster takes place, to the direct consequences, to the response, to the aftermath and the untangling of the knowledge that this may not have been an accident.
God, I hate Disney so much and not to support the anti-LGBT capitalist monopoly but goddamn this book was good. Such a refreshing mix of sci-fi, fantasy, and good ole-fashioned Jedi stuff. I'm mad I liked this so much.
5/5 guilty lesbian stars
