The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse

dark mysterious tense fast-paced

4.5

What I liked:
• creepy asylum vibes
• super atmospheric
• very moody autumn/winter read
• short chapters
• thrilling page-turner

This was the perfect grey autumn read for me. Snuggled up under a cozy blanket and a tea by my side.
The setting was beautiful! I love me a creepy old asylum somewhere remote. The Swiss alps are gorgeous and it was very cool that I've been to places mentioned in the book (Lausanne for example, love the french part of Switzerland in general).
I kept reading chapter for chapter because I always wanted to know what happened next. What will Elin do next? There were so many suspects, everyone could have been the killer and that really kept me reading.
Seeing Elin alone all the time, without the help of the local police, gave me an uneasy feeling while reading. I felt like I have to look out for Elin, try to puzzle the pieces together with her.
If you're looking for a atmospheric whodunit this one is for you!
Can't wait to read The Retreat next year!
