An Education in Malice by S.T. Gibson
Did not finish book. Stopped at 45%.
DNF at 45%
Was this book descriptive, beautifully written with a wonderful premise? ✅
The execution...bleh
I happened to listen to this, but I feel I would've had the same issue if I had physically read it. By BIGGEST complaint with the audiobook is the lack of commitment. Laura, a woman from Mississippi and Carmilla a women from Austria and no discerning accents except a slight change in the voice. Like what? Someone from Mississippi at least would have an accent.
It spent AN ENORMOUS amount of time just describing how attracted they were to each other, to their teacher and their rivalry. I too like admiring women and their beauty but it put way too much of a focus on doing that and just that. There wasnt really anything moving the story along than the literal passage of time. It wasn't going anywhere. How are we almost halfway through the book and the plot is nothing? It moved way too slow to be enjoyable and only really delved into the characters on a surface level. I wanted to know way more about everyone. You can describe Carmilla fantasizing about Laura's painted toe nails but not more about their personalities? Vampire dark academia needs to have more! There needs to be so much more mystery and excitement. It just wasn't there and I don't have the desire to finish and find out what happened. I'll maybe Google it. Idk, I've heard good things about Gibson's other works so imma try that but this just didn't work for me.
