Elantris: Tenth Anniversary Author's Definitive Edition by Brandon Sanderson

3.0

3/5
You can definitely tell this is Sanderson's "baby" book.
Elantris wasn't a bad book. It has an interesting magic system and an interesting world.
The problem, I felt, with this book, was the pacing. The amount of heavy politicking and courtly flexing makes the story drag for the first 80% of the book. We learn a lot about the world and their cultures, but there was about zero action going on. The last 20% was better.

I do have questions about the introduction of the monks strange abilities, and a few of the other characters randomly having "powers". It is acknowledge, but out of all the things that were explained I would have wanted to know more about these things than some of the politicking rif raf.

That being said, I still enjoyed the characters. I found myself rooting for them and I was very happy that Serene finally got herself a husband.
I would still recommend reading this book if you are a Sanderson fan.
